About Enchanted China Designs

The artist behind Enchanted China Designs is Jessica K. Dockery. I have been
working intensively on jewelry for over seven years now. My artwork is featured
in local galleries as well as on the DIY (Do It Yourself) Network. I am a
member of the Foothills Craft Guild and the Tennessee Association of Craft
Artists.

As long as I can remember, I have always been "creating" something. My first
experience creating as a child came from visiting my grandparents in New
York.  Whenever my cousins and I ran out of games to play, my grandma
would direct us to a large drawer in the guest bedroom filled with paper and
pencils.  We would then sit down with our grandpa and draw together. He was
a commercial artist, and he loved to sketch cartoon-like characters in his
spare time. He was, and still is one of the biggest influences on my creativity.
In addition to drawing, I have dabbled in many crafts including crocheting,
cross stitch and sewing, painting (from portraits to murals), and sculpture
created with found objects.

I began working with broken china while I was still in college studying Interior
Design.  My obsession with china began with a mosaic coffee table covered
in bits and pieces of plates. I loved combining the varying patterns and
colors, and I was hooked. After several years of working with mosaics, my
Great Aunt introduced me to stained glass.  After experimenting with different
techniques, I decided to incorporate broken china into my designs and my
jewelry collection was born.

My jewelry designs are always evolving in order to create something new and
unique. I love experimenting with different china patterns and color
combinations. Making jewelry out of china is always refreshing because each
piece is different, and each has its own story to tell. I love the idea that I am
recycling, that I am reusing a treasure that someone else may have thrown
away. But it is even more motivating that I am creating a keepsake, preserving
a bit of the past that may be handed down for generations.

It is a multi-step labor intensive process to create my jewelry, from grinding
down the china all the way to the final polish. I create all of my pieces from
start to finish. All of the china is encased in a lead-free silver alloy and coated
with a special polish to keep it from tarnishing.

Due to a new business venture, I'm afraid that I am no longer taking wholesale
or custom orders.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience!
